1. Workshop: Strategic Management for Senior ExecutivesKarsten Weitzenegger facilitated a workshop on "Strategic Management for
Senior Executives" and a Training of Trainers in December 2003 on behalf
of the Guyana Training Agency. The competencies enhanced correspond to
the international standards "Manage operational plan" and "Facilitate
work teams" in Frontline Management. The purpose of Frontline Management
is to provide safe, efficient and effective products and services to
customer satisfaction within the organisation's productivity and
profitability plans. At executive level, work will normally be carried
out within complex and diverse methods and procedures which require the
exercise of considerable discretion and judgement, using a range of
problem solving and decision making strategies. Learning was done by
action and included the fun needed for any learning. The participants
studied learners' guides for the two competency fields and received
practical summaries. See a report at: 2. The State of the World's Children 2004UNICEF The State of the World's Children 2004 focuses on girls'

Natural Resource Management and Research.
Monitoring and evaluation are key processes, which help ensure that
learning and adaptation happen throughout the project/programming
cycle. Participatory M&E (PM&E) ensures that these processes are people
centred. Full participation of those involved in, or affected by any
project/programme will give a fuller and more accurate picture of
progress, outcomes and impact. These Best Practice Guidelines on
Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation provide some background to the
evolution and purpose of PM&E, and takes a practical look at turning
plans into practice in the area of Natural Resource Management and
Research. Find the guidelines on the Livelihoods connect website. 11. Online Reference Library on Peace ResearchThe Peace Research Information Unit Bonn (PRIUB) has launched a new
feature on its website providing access to over 12,000 volumes and some
400 periodicals and information sources. 12. Between profits and fairness: quality and equitable services for SMEsThe paper by Gerry Hofstede, Grupo Intercambio, (Peru), draws on 98 case
studies of BDS providers and MFIs that competed in the Gender Best
Practices Contests organized by INTERCAMBIO between 2000 and 2002 in the
Andean Region and Central America. The paper discusses the main gender
best practices that were identified based on these experiences, which
include conceptual elements for a framework on measuring the performance
of social equity and economic objectives in the context of SME support.
The paper seeks to contribute to current debates on impact-related
issues of quality, equality, sustainability and fairness in the delivery
of business services to SMEs. It argues that the equity issue of gender
represents a source of innovation and creativity, giving rise to new
perspectives in the field of SME support. |
